Prothero Reaches Century Mark With 2-0 Win

Box Score

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini College women's soccer team improved to 4-1-3 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference and 5-6-3 overall after today's 2-0 win over Notre Dame of Maryland University and in the process secured head coach Ken Prothero's 100th career victory.

“I am really proud of 100 wins but they don't just belong to me,” said Prothero after the match. “ These wins also belong just as much to Jess Huda, who has been with me since day one.  Our assistants, our fans, and my family have been incredibly supportive every step of the way.

“My players, both past and present, have done so much to help us raise the level of the program to where it is today.  The team is excited about getting win 101 and battling for the CSAC Championship. “

The Cavaliers dominated the stat sheet but, as has been the case this season, had difficulty finding the back of the net.  Cabrini allowed the Gators just one shot, while firing 18 of its own, including nine on target.  The Blue and White also secured 10 corner kicks to Notre Dame's one.

Freshman Dana Peterson opened the score book in the 16th minute when the rookie collected the rebound off a Melissa Scanzano shot and slotted it into the net for her second career goal.

The Blue and White doubled its lead in the 75th minute.  Junior Lauren Pallister played a perfect long pass to the left side of the goal where she found senior Dana Drake streaking to the goal.  Drake knocked the ball into the net for her second score of the season and the 11th of her career.

Scanzano led the club with six shots on the night, while freshman Kristina Startare added four.

Senior goaltender Maddy Edwards recorded her 22nd career shutout, and fourth of the season, as the Cavaliers held the Gators without a shot on goal.

Notre Dame goaltender Heather Lancellotti recorded seven saves in the loss.

Prothero has been on Cabrini's sideline since 2000 when he began a two-year stint as assistant coach before taking over the program in 2002.   Since taking the reins, Prothero has led the Cavaliers to three CSAC Champions, 2003, 2009 and 2012.  He was also named CSAC Coach of the year in 2010.

The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday, as they travel to Langhorne, Pa. to face Cairn University.  Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
