IMMACULATA, Pa. – For the second consecutive game, the Cabrini women's soccer team used a dramatic late goal to remain unbeaten in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Freshman
Julianna Ardire's goal in the 79th minute sent the Cavaliers to a 1-0 win at Immaculata and a 2-0-2 mark in conference play and 3-5-1 overall.
The score book remained closed during the game's first 45 minutes of action as neither team could establish its pace. The clubs combined for eight first half shots, but the team's goalkeepers
Maddy Edwards from Cabrini and Immaculata's Meghan McCurnin, were up to the task, combining for five saves before the break.
The Blue and White gained a bit of momentum in the second half as it continued to pressure Immaculata's defense, recording eight shots in the opening 27 minutes of the second half, holding the Mighty Macs to just three. The Cavaliers finally found the right scoring combination in the 75th minute.
Junior
Bethany Feinberg took the Cavaliers' third corner kick of the game. Feinberg's service hit the cross bar and found the Ardire's foot. The rookie turned the play into her team-leading second goal of the year.
For the game, the Cavaliers doubled the Mighty Mac's shots with 16, with eight on target. Sophomore
Melissa Scanzano led the charge with five shots, while Ardire fired three. Feinberg and sophomore
Kaitlin Zisa added a pair each. The Cavaliers also held Immaculata without a corner kick.
Edwards extended her school record for career shutouts to 21 with four saves on the night. The victory also ties her with Gianna Poretta (2007-2010) with 28 career victories.
The Blue and White will return to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Saturday to host the Baptist Bible College Defenders. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
