Late Goal Sends Women's Soccer to 1st CSAC Loss

Box Score

ASTON, Pa. – The Cabrini College women's soccer team suffered its first loss in CSAC play as the Cavaliers lost to Neumann University 1-0.  The Blue and White now stands at 2-1-3 in conference play and 3-6-3 overall.

The Knights controlled the flow of play in the first half as they held the Cavaliers without a shot in the game's opening 45 minutes.  Neumann mustered five of their own, but Cabrini's senior goaltender Maddy Edwards kept her sheet clean with a pair of saves before the break.

The Cavaliers finally created an offensive chance in the 69th minute when freshman Julianna Ardire blasted Cabrini's first shot of the match, forcing a Neumann save.  Sophomore Melissa Scanzano missed the target on the Cavaliers' second attempt 20 seconds later.

Cabrini created another scoring opportunity in the 78th minute with their only corner kick of the night.  Freshman Dana Peterson offered a pair of shots in the 79th and 81st minutes but neither could tickle the twine.

Just as it looked as Cabrini would go to extra time for the fifth time this year, Neumann's Maria Tivoli slid the ball past Edwards in the 88th minute for the only goal of the match.

Scanzano and Peterson recorded four of Cabrini's five shots on the day, each with one attempt on target.  Edwards posted three saves in the loss.

The Blue and White will return to the pitch on Saturday, as they travel to Scranton, Pa. to face Keystone College.   The CSAC tilt will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the University of Scranton's Fitzpatrick Field.
