Volleyball Returns to CSAC Championship Match with 3-0 Win

Box Score

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini College volleyball team advanced to its fifth consecutive Colonial States Athletic Conference championship match after today's 3-0 win over the visiting Baptist Bible College Defenders.  The Blue and White's 19th victory of the season secures a spot in Saturday's title match where they will face Neumann University.  First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Aston, Pa.

It is often said that beating a team three times in a single season is among the most difficult feats in team sports, but the Cavaliers wasted little time putting an end to that discussion, scoring six of the match's first seven points.  Senior Danielle Carrozza posted six kills in the opening set, while senior Meg Ryan and freshman Jen Grenauer recorded four each.    Freshman Cassidy Koenig and junior Sophia Sokolovich added six digs each as the Blue and White took the first set 25-16.

The Cavaliers jumped on Defenders to open the second set, building an early 9-2 lead and never looked back. Cabrini held Baptist Bible to just four kills and forced five attack errors in the frame.  Conversely, Carrozza, Grenauer and junior Michele Fitz combined for 12 Cabrini kills en route to the 25-10 set victory.

The early minutes of the third set mirrored the first two as Cabrini built another early 9-2 lead.  The Defenders never got within five points of the lead on the strength of Cabrini's offensive balance.  Five Cavaliers recorded at least three kills in the set, led by Carrozza's four and the Blue and White secured the victory with a 25-19 set victory.

Carrozza recorded her ninth double-double of the season with a match-high 15 kills and 12 digs.  Grenauer added 11 kills, while Fitz and Ryan combined for 15.  Sokolovich added 24 digs and Fitz scored five total blocks.  Koenig handed out 36 assist.

Senior Jessica White led Baptist Bible with seven kills and 14 digs in the loss.

Top seeded Neumann advanced to Sunday's championship match with a 3-0 win over Cairn University this afternoon.  Natalie George and Katelin Kuklentz combined for 22 kills as the Knights recorded the 25-16, 25-21, 25-19 win.

While Sunday will mark Cabrini's fifth consecutive appearance in the CSAC championship game, it will also mark the third time the Cavaliers and Knights have met for the title during that span.  Neumann captured the 2008 crown, while the Blue and White its third title in 2011.
