RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini College women's basketball team improved to 4-2 on the year and 2-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with tonight's 73-52 win over the visiting Immaculata University Mighty Macs. This marks the sixth time on the last seven season that the Blue and White has opened its conference season with consecutive wins.
Sophomore
Amber Keys posted her second double-double of the season with a career high 20 points, on 10-16 shooting, and a game high 11 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end. Five other players tallied at least eight points, led by juniors
Brittany Sandone and
Annie Rivituso with 11 points each.
The Mighty Macs jumped out to an early lead but it didn't take long for the Blue and White to respond. A Sandone lay-up spurred the Cavaliers to a 19-4 run over a 10 minute span. Keys' bucket with 7:34 to play in the half gave Cabrini a 21-10 lead. Another 12-0 run late in the half extended the Cavaliers' lead to 35-14 with 2:39 to go before the break.
After 20 minutes, the Blue and White took a 35-19 advantage into the locker room. Cabrini made a concerted effort to use its inside dominance as Keys went to the break with 12 points and eight boards. The Cavaliers owned a 20-10 advantage in points in the paint and 25-15 rebounding lead. Cabrini also turned 14 Immaculata turnovers into 15 first half points.
Cabrini continued its solid play after the break, building its lead to 57-30 on a
Megan Decker jumper with 9:25 to play. Minutes later, the Cavaliers hit an offensive lull as the Mighty Macs went on an 18-4 run, cutting the Blue and White lead to 61-48 with just north of four minutes on the clock. Decker ended the run with an offensive rebound and putback before Cabrini pushed its lead back to 21 points in the final 90 seconds of action.
The Cavaliers continued their dominance of the lane in the second half, outscoring Immaculata 22-12 and outrebounding it 17-11. The Blue and White also turned 23 Mighty Macs turnovers into 27 points on the night.
Decker played another solid all-around game totaling 10 points, nine rebounds, three assists and a pair of assists. Rivituso added five boards and three steals to her season high 11 points, while Sandone dished out a career high six assists. Keys also matched career bests with two assists and three steals. Seniors
Laura Caron and
Renee Deas added nine and eight points, respectively.
Sophomore Sara Smith led the Mighty Macs with eight points, while senior Chrissy Esbensen and sophomore Meghan Gallagher added seven points each.
Cabrini will look for its third conference win on Saturday when it travels to Clarks Summit, Pa. to face the Baptist Bible College Defenders. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
