CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – The Cabrini College women's basketball improved to 5-2 on the year and 3-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with today's 74-46 win at Baptist Bible College. This marks the second consecutive season that the Cavaliers have opened league play with three consecutive wins.
Junior
Brittany Sandone tied a career high with five made three pointers en route to a game high 21 points. Senior
Laura Caron added 14, including 8-10 from the free throw line, while junior
Colleen Stewart tallied 11.
While the Defenders grabbed an early lead, freshman
Kristina Startare's three pointer gave the Blue and White a lead with 12:45 left in the opening half. Minutes later, the Cavaliers took control of the game with a six minute, 21-2 run, building a 26-9 lead with just under six minutes to play in the stanza.
Cabrini shot 46.7% in the first half as it carried a 37-21 lead into the halftime break. The Blue and White also held the Defenders to just nine first half field goals.
The halftime break did nothing to slow the Cavaliers as they continued to press the issue, extending their lead minute by minute. Cabrini's lead reach as high as 29 points late in the game as the Blue and White dominated the paint, outscoring Baptist Bible 16-2 after the half.
Even with its large lead, the Cavaliers continued their defensive pressure, holding the Defenders to just 31.9% shooting and 15 total field goals on the game. Cabrini also outrebounded Baptist Bible 38-30. The Blue and White also forced 29 turnovers n the night, leading to 27 Cabrini points.
Stewart just missed a double double, pairing nine rebounds with her 11 points. Caron added five assists and three steals to her 14 points.
Kelly Bargfeldt led the Defenders with 14 points, while Morgan Jones grabbed a game high 11 boards.
The Cavaliers will take a break from game action for finalsbefore returning to action on December 17 when they travel to Doylestown to face Delaware Valley College. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
