BALTIMORE, Md. – The Cabrini women's soccer team snapped its scoreless streak but it wasn't enough as the Cavaliers dropped to 1-4 on the season with today's 3-2 loss at Goucher College.
The Blue and White fell behind in the 28th minute as Goucher's Shay Kettner collected a loose ball inside Cabrini's six yard box and turned it into the game's first goal. The Gouchers added to their lead in the 40th minute when Sherland Buskey cut through Cabrini's defense, chipping the ball into the back of the net.
Goucher carried the 2-0 lead into the halftime break. The Cavaliers outshot Goucher 8-4 in the opening stanza and recorded four corner kicks to the Gophers' one, but could not find the scoring combination.
That changed in the 55th minute when sophomore
Melissa Scanzano's cross found freshman
Julianna Ardire at the top of the Goucher penalty area. The rookie rocketed a shot, beating Goucher goaltender Lexi Rudolph. Ardire's first career goal cut the Cavaliers deficit to 2-1.
Four minutes later, Goucher recovered its two goal advantage as Lindsey Puopolo's long chip shot found the net.
The Blue and White continued to look for its next scoring opportunity and it came in the 84th minute. Junior
Noelle DiCioccio secured a loose ball in the six yard box and slid it into the net, cutting Goucher's lead to 3-2 with her first career goal.
The Cavaliers had a pair of corner kicks in the match's final five minutes but could not find the equalizer.
Ardire's goal was the first surrendered by Goucher (6-0) this season in over 504 minutes of action. The tally also ended Cabrini's scoreless drought at 252 minutes.
