RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini College volleyball team opened Colonial States Athletic Conference schedule with a resounding 3-0 win over visiting Centenary College this morning. The victory was the Cavaliers fifth consecutive and improved Cabrini to 8-4 on the season.
The Blue and White wasted little time in displaying its balanced attack, as six players posted kills in the opening set. Senior
Danielle Carrozza led the charge with four kills. Freshman Cassidy Keonig added three service aces as Cabrini took the first set 25-18.
The Cavaliers controlled the second set as they did the first. Carrozza and freshman
Jen Grenauer combined for nine kills in the frame. Keonig, Cabrini's setter, controlled the attack with 12 assist in the set as the Blue and White rolled to a 25-15 set win.
The Cyclones rebounded in the third set to control the score board for the majority of the match. But trailing 22-19, the Cavaliers fought back. A kill by sophomore
Molly Fox and a
Meg Ryan ace cut the deficit to 22-21. When the Cavaliers won their next service opportunity, the offense turned to Carrozza. With junior
Kristy Riley at the service line, Carrozza powered three consecutive kills to seal the win.
Carrozza posted a season-high 14 kills and nine digs, while senior
Meg Ryan added seven kills and Fitz six.
Koenig paired 29 assists with her three service aces. Junior libero
Sophia Sokolovich led the squad with a game-high 12 digs. Riley joined Koenig with three service aces.
Senior Jelena Markovic had a stand-out day for the Cyclones, recording 17 assists, 12 digs, seven kills and six service aces. Fellow seniors Kelli McMenamin and Erica Chu also posted seven kill son the day.
The Cavaliers will hit the road on Tuesday as they visit Immaculata University. The CSAC tilt will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Alumnae Hall.
