ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cabrini College women's basketball team remained unbeaten in Colonial states Athletic conference action with today's 80-28 win at Cedar Crest College. The victory also extends the Cavaliers' win streak to eight games. The Blue and White now stand at 13-3 overall and 8-0 in the CSAC.
Today's win marks the third consecutive game the Blue and White has reached the 80 point mark. This feat has not been accomplished since the 1993-94 season when the Cavaliers topped Eastern 81-30, Gwynedd-Mercy 101-41 and Rosemont 82-33.
The Cavaliers displayed a balanced offensive effort in the victory, as 12 of the 13 players who saw action notched the scoring column, including eight players with at least five points. Junior
Brittany Sandone and sophomore
Amber Keys led the charge with 12 points each, while junior
Annie Rivituso added 10.
In addition to balanced scoring, Cabrini dominated the glass as a team, outrebounding Cedar Crest 42-20. Twelve players secured at least one rebound, led by junior
Colleen Stewart's seven boards. Keys and Rivituso grabbed five each.
The Cavaliers jumped out to an early lead, building an 8-0 lead in the first 4:39 of the game. Cabrini built a 30-12 lead after 20 minutes of play, as the Blue and White connected on over 41% shooting in the first half. The Cavaliers also converted 14 first half Cedar Crest turnovers into 14 points.
Cabrini really found its offensive stride in the second half as it tallied 50 points in the second stanza on nearly 62% shooting, including 5-7 from three point range. The Cavaliers also tightened their defense, holding the Falcons to 4-21 from the floor in the second half, including no field goals in the game's final 8:42.
The Blue and White shot a season-high 51.5% from the floor in the victory. Freshmen
Meghan Martin and
Christine Ingargiola added eight points each, while fellow rookie
Kristina Startare tallied seven points.
Nine Cavaliers also recorded at least one assist, led by Sandone's five. Stewart, Startare and senior
Laura Caron posted three steals each as Cabrini matched a season-high with 17 steals.
Amber Wehry led the Falcons (2-15, 1-8 CSAC) with nine points, four rebounds and four steals. Denyell Spingola and Megan DeMutis added six points each.
The Cavaliers will look to continue their win streak on Monday as they travel down the Main Line to face Rosemont College (10-6, 7-2 CSAC). Cabrini handed the Ravens their first conference loss on January 12, with an 85-63 home win. Game time is slated for 6:00 p.m.
