Box Score

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini College women's basketball team won its 11th consecutive game today and improved to 11-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with today's 61-37 win over Cairn University.  The victory matched the 2008-09 Cavaliers team that also started the CSAC season with 11 consecutive wins.

The Cavaliers combined a balanced offensive effort with its normal defensive pressure, as all 12 players who saw action recorded points.  Junior Brittany Sandone led the club with 18 points, while fellow junior Colleen Stewart added 12 points and seven rebounds.  Freshman Kristina Startare matched a season best with eight points and five rebounds.

The Blue and White held the Highlanders to under 32% shooting from the field, including 5-19 in the opening 20 minutes.  Cabrini also outrebounded Cairn 41-35, the 24th consecutive game the Blue and White has won the rebounding battle.  Stewart and sophomore Amber Keys led the way with seven rebounds each, while senior Laura Caron added six boards.

Just three minutes into the game, the Cavaliers exerted their will, going on a 14-0 run, building an 18-3 lead with 11 minutes to play before the halftime break.   A 6-0 run minutes later extended Cabrini's lead to 16 points.  After 20 minutes of play, the Cavaliers led 28-13.

After the break, the Highlanders cut Cabrini's lead to 30-21 but a Cavaliers time out helped refocus the club.  Following the break, the Blue and White went on an 11-0 run, taking a 41-21 advantage with just over 14 minutes to play.  The Blue and White never relaxed its defensive pressure as it built its lead to a game high 28 points with 8:37 to play.

Cabrini recorded 17 assists on its 25 made field goals, including Caron's game high six and five from Sandone.  Conversely, the Blue and White forced a season high 30 turnovers and allowed a season low three assists.

Senior Hannah McCardle led the highlanders with 15 points, while junior Ruth Nelson grabbed a game high 11 rebounds.

The Blue and white will return to action on Monday as it steps out of CSAC play to host Alvernia University (7-11).  Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Nerney Field House.
