RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini College women's basketball team won its third consecutive game tonight, as the Cavaliers topped the Albright College Lions 63-45 at Nerney Field House. The victory improves the Blue and White to 8-3 on the year.
Junior guard
Brittany Sandone continued her hot streak, leading the Cavaliers with 20 points, her fourth 20 point performance of the season. Fellow junior
Annie Rivituso matched a season-high with 12 points, while sophomore
Amber Keys chipped in with 10 points.
The Blue and White wasted no time jumping on the Lions, as Cabrini forced turnovers on Albright's first two possessions of the game leading to fast break lay-ups. The Cavaliers scored the game's first 14 points and, just seven minutes into play, led 22-3. A Keys lay-up extended Cabrini's lead to a game-high 32-8 with just under five minutes to play in the opening half.
After 20 minutes, Cabrini held a 36-20 lead behind a combined 20 points from Sandone and Keys. The Cavaliers forced 10 first half turnovers and converted them into 15 points. The Blue and White also dominated the painted area, outscoring Albright 22-6. Their offense had a great flow as Cabrini recorded assists on 10 of their 16 first half field goals.
The Lions mounted a comeback early in the second half, slicing Cabrini's lead to 40-31 with a 9-0 run of its own. A pair of offensive rebounds led to a lay-up by freshman
Maura O'Connell to end the run. The rookie's bucket sent Cabrini on a 7-0 run to extend its lead back to 16 points with 9:32 to play.
The Cavaliers continued its rebounding dominance in the second half as they closed the game with a 48-36 rebounding advantage, including 23 offensive boards which converted to 19 second chance points. Senior

While the Blue and White shot just 38.4% from the floor and 2-11 from three point range, its defense was the key to the win. Cabrini allowed a season-low six turnovers, while forcing Albright into 20 turnovers, which the Cavaliers turned into 27 points. The Blue and White held Albright to over 18 points below its season average and season lows in points, field goals and field goal percentage.
Four players split team-high scoring honors for the Lions (6-5). Jessica Venturelli, Kelecia Harris, Kristi McFadden and Kadijah Bishop scored five points each.
Cabrini will return to Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Saturday as it welcomes Keystone College (7-2, 2-1 CSAC) to Nerney Field House. The game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. as the opener of a women's and men's CSAC doubleheader. The nightcap will feature the Cabrini men against Cairn University at 3:00 p.m.
