RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini College women's basketball team improved to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with today's 58-46 win over Keystone College at Nerney Field house. This marks the second consecutive season the Cavaliers have opened its conference slate with four consecutive wins.
Junior
Annie Rivituso dominated the paint, matching a career high with 13 points and set a new career best with 16 rebounds. Fellow junior
Brittany Sandone tallied a team-high 15 points, all in the second half, while sophomore
Megan Decker added 10 points.
The Cavaliers took a few minutes to find their footing, as the Giants established an early lead. The Blue and White missed its first six field goal attempts in the game's opening four minutes. The game remained close during the first 11 minutes of action.
A pair of Keystone free throws tied the score at 12 with 8:36 to play in the opening half. Minutes later the Cavaliers secured three offensive rebounds in a single possession, culminating with a Rivituso lay-up that sent Cabrini on a 13-1 run. By the break, Cabrini enjoyed a 27-17 lead and the game's momentum.
Cabrini continued to exert its will in the second half, extending its lead to 36-22 just five minutes into the half. A 7-2 Keystone run cut the Blue and White advantage to nine points but the Cavaliers responded with a 7-0 run of their own building its lead to a game-high 16 points at 47-31 with just north of six minutes on the clock.
While the Cavaliers connected on just 34.8% of their field goal attempts, including 4-13 from three point range, and 8-19 from the free throw line, it was its defense and rebounding that led the way. Cabrini held Keystone to its lowest scoring output of the season and its second lowest shooting performance of the year at 29.4.
The Blue and White also dominated the glass, to the tune of a 52-36 advantage, including 20-10 on the offensive side of the floor. The Giants' 36 boards are more than 15 rebounds lower than its season average.
Senior
Laura Caron paired eight rebounds with five assists, while junior
Colleen Stewart grabbed seven rebounds. Sophomore
Amber Keys chipped in with nine points and six boards. Decker also matched a career-high with five steals.
Junior Tiana Cuttino led the Giants (7-3, 2-2 CSAC) with 19 points. Sophomore Jazmyn Robinson grabbed 10 rebounds and handed out a game-high six assists.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Wednesday, January 9 when they welcome the Neumann University Knights (4-8, 2-2 CSAC) to Nerney Field House. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
