Women's Basketball Wins 5th Straight, Tops Neumann 65-32

RADNOR, Pa. - The Cabrini College women's basketball team extended its win streak to five games after tonight's 65-32 win over Neumann University.  The Nerney Field House victory improved the Cavaliers to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

Senior Laura Caron led the Blue and White with 16 points, while sophomore Amber Keys tallied 14 off the bench.  Junior Annie Rivituso matched 13 rebounds with her eight points.

The Knights scored the game's opening bucket and led for 24 seconds.  The Blue and White went on an 11-0 run and never looked back.  Cabrini built its lead to 30-11 after a dominating opening half.

The Cavaliers held Neumann to 5-34 shooting before the break and built a 37-16 rebounding advantage.  Cabrini turned 12 first half offensive rebounds into 11 second chance points.  The Blue and White also dominated the paint to the tune of a 20-8 point advantage.

Cabrini continued to force the issue after the break as its lead continued to grow.  Neumann got as close as 45-29 with 7:41 to play, but the Blue and White responded with a 12-0 run to extend its lead to 28 points.  

The Cavaliers solidified their standing as one the nation' stop rebounding and defensive teams tonight.  Neumann shot a season-low 18.2% from the floor, including 0-12 from three point range.  Cabrini also outrebounded the Knights 63-37, matching its largest rebounding margin of the season.

Ten of the 13 Cavaliers that saw action tonight marked the scoring column and 12 grabbed at least one rebound.  While junior Brittany Sandone and sophomore Megan Decker tallied seven points, Sandone grabbed a season-high seven rebounds and Decker recorded five steals.  Junior Colleen Stewart grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and Caron, Keys and freshman Dana Peterson grabbed five caroms each.

Freshman JoHanna Metzger led the Knights (4-9, 2-3 CSAC) with 11 points and nine rebounds.  Senior Bethany Humenik chipped in with nine points and nine boards for Neumann.

The Cavaliers will put their win streak on the line on Saturday as they host Rosemont College (8-4, 5-0 CSAC) in a battle of the CSAC's two 5-0 teams.  Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Nerney Field House.
