PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Cabrini women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to eight matches with tonight's 1-1 tie against Penn State-Abington at Father Judge High School. The nonconference result moves the Cavaliers to 8-3-5 overall.
The match remained scoreless until the 72nd minute when junior
Melissa Scanzano's shot found the back of the net for her sixth of the season, marking the fourth consecutive match in which the junior has scored.
The lead was short lived as the Nittany Lions tallied the game-tying goal just 16 seconds later. The goal snapped Cabrini's scoreless minutes streak at 466 minutes.
The Cavaliers continued to press the issue for a game winning goal, outshooting Penn State-Abington 11-2 during the extra 20 minutes of overtime, to no avail.
Cabrini owned a 34-9 advantage in shots, including 17-4 in shots on goal. Sophomore
Devon Miller led the way with eight shots, including five on net, while Scanzano added five and senior
Noelle DiCioccio four.
Sophomore
Brianna McGrory was solid in Cabrini's net, recorded three saves in her first career start.
Mallory Mugnier tallied the goal for the Nittany Lions (10-2-1), while Alyssa Kaye recorded 16 saves.
The Blue and White will return to Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Tuesday when Baptist Bible College visits Edith Robb Dixon Field. The Cavaliers will celebrate the careers of seniors DiCioccio,
Bethany Feinberg,
MaryKate McCann,
Laureen Pallister,
Breaghann Smith and
Bree Thompson prior to the 4 p.m. match.
