Volleyball Downs Moravian 3-1 on Senior Night

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini volleyball team fought through some early match struggles to earn a 3-0 victory over the visiting Moravian College Greyhounds tonight at Nerney Field House.  The 19-25, 25-14, 25-12, 25-19 nonconference win improves the Cavaliers to 21-4 on the season.

Prior to tonight's action, the Blue and White honored the illustrious careers of seniors Danielle Carrozza, Michele Fitz, Kristy Riley and Sophia Sokolovich.  The ladies have anchored the program's most successful four year span, amassing 86 wins, including a 40-2 mark in conference play.  

The group has combined for over 2,000 kills, 3,600 digs and 400 service aces and total block, while leading Cabrini to the 2010 and 2011 CSAC championships.   

The Cavaliers struggled to find its footing in the opening set, as the Greyhounds recorded 14 kills in the set.  Cabrini turned things around in the second set led by sophomore Jen Grenauer's five kills in the set and four total blocks.

Cabrini continued to roll in the third set, firing 12 kills against just two attack errors in the set.  The early potions of the fourth set were tight, but with the score tied 10-10, the Blue and White won eight of the next nine points and never looked back.

Carrozza led the way with her 10th double-double of the season, posting 14 kills and 14 digs.  Fitz paired 12 kills with four total blocks and four service aces, while Grenauer finished with 19 kills.

Sokolovich scored a match-high 21 digs, as freshman Kelly Guarino recorded 18 digs and a career high six service aces.  Sophomore Cassidy Koenig controlled the offense with 43 assists.

The Blue and White will return to action on Saturday as it hosts Rutgers-Camden and the University of Scranton in a tri-match.  The Cavaliers will meet Rutgers-Camden at 11:00 a.m. and Scranton at 3:00 p.m.  Rutgers-Camden and Scranton will meet at 1:00 p.m.

Saturday's action will be dedicated to Team BamIt, an organization founded in memory of Margo Mallory Ambler a passionate, gentle 24 year old young woman who lost her 9 month battle with Cervical Cancer.  The foundation looks to help women and their families who are affected by cervical cancer by raising awareness through fundraising and education.  For more information about Team BamIt, please visit their website.
