RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's soccer team closed the careers of its six seniors with a resounding 7-0 win over Baptist Bible College today at Edith Robb Dixon Field. The victory improves the Blue and White to 9-3-5 overall and 7-1-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Today's match marked the final regular season appearance at Edith Robb Dixon Field for
Noelle DiCioccio,
Bethany Feinberg,
MaryKate McCann,
Laureen Pallister,
Breaghann Smith and
Bree Thompson. The group has anchored one of the most successful periods of the program, leading the Cavaliers to the 2011 and 2012 CSAC championships.
The group has made appearances in 373 matches recording 42 points. They have led Cabrini to 44 career victories, including a 30-5-6 record in Colonial States
Athletic Conference play.
Junior
Melissa Scanzano opened the scoring in the 15th minute with her team-leading seventh tally of the season, after collecting a pass from junior
Kaitlin Zisa. Ten minutes later, junior
Gabby Meck found McCann for the senior's fourth career goal.
By the break, the Cavaliers had extended their lead to 4-0 after freshman
Allie Vallen netted goals in the 37th and 44th minutes. The Blue and White posted 21 shots in the opening 45 minutes of play, while holding the Defenders without an attempt.
Scanzano found DiCioccio in the 61st minute, as the senior tallied her first goal of the season and second of her career. Smith got into the scoring column in the 67th minute, recording her first career goal on her first shot of the season. Freshman
Emily Lauziere closed the scoring in the final minute of play with her first career goal.
The Blue and White posted 44 shots in the match, including 19 on goal. Feinberg led the way with seven shots, while Pallister and sophomore
Dana Peterson added six shots each.
Freshman goaltender
Marissa Jenkins made two saves, including a diving stop of a breakaway, to preserve the seventh save of her young career.
Junior Katelyn King added 12 saves in net for the Defenders.
Cabrini will close its regular season on Thursday with a trip to Rosemont college (11-5, 9-1 CSAC). The Ravens have clinched the top seed in next week's CSAC tournament. A Cabrini victory would seal the tournament's second seed and a bye to the tournament's semifinal round.
