RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's soccer team will play for its third consecutive Colonial States Athletic Conference championship on Saturday after topping the visiting Neumann University Knights 3-0 tonight at Edith Robb Dixon Field. The Cavaliers will visit Rosemont College on Saturday for the title match at a time yet to be announced.
After a scoreless opening 32 minutes, the Cavaliers got on the board in the 33rd minute. Senior
Laureen Pallister played the ball across the goal area to freshman
Jessica Breuning who finished the play for her second career goal.
The Cavaliers outshot the Knights 10-5 and held Neumann without a corner kick in the opening 45 minutes, but held a slim 1-0 lead at the break. Junior goaltender Briana King kept the Knights in the match with six first half saves.
Cabrini continued to pressure the Neumann defense, finally breaking through in the 64th minute. Junior
Melissa Scanzano dribbled down the left side and passed the ball to sophomore
Devon Miller. Miller fired a shot to the far post, bouncing the ball off the inside of the post and into the net.
Miller put the match away led than three minutes later as sophomore
Kristina Startare found her streaking down the middle of the field, leading to Miller's second goal of the night and seventh of the season.
Cabrini outshot Neumann 18-9 on the match, including 10-3 in shots on goal. Miller led the Cavaliers with four shots, while sophomore
Julianna Ardire attempted three. Freshman goaltender
Marissa Jenkins recorded three saves to secure her ninth shutout of the season.
Rosemont advanced to the program's first championship match with a 2-1 win tonight over Centenary. Sophomore Lauren Whelan's fith minute goal gave the Ravensan early 1-0 lead. The sophomore then found freshman Taylor Mohr in the 53rd minute to give the Ravens a 2-0 advantage.
Cabrini and Rosemont met just seven days ago, with the Blue and White scoring a 2-0 victory. Sophomore
Kaitlyn Cooper scored the game-winning goal in the 75th minute before adding an assist in the 80th minute on Pallister's goal.
