RADNOR, Pa. - The Cabrini women's basketball team celebrated the careers of its seniors
Laura Caron and
Melissa Kudzmas in a big way as the Blue and White posted an 84-18 win over the visiting Notre Dame of Maryland University Gators. The win extends the Blue and White's current win streak to 16 games and keeps the Cavaliers perfect in the CSAC at 15-0 and 21-3 overall.
The 66 point margin of victory is Cabrini's largest since an 87-32 win over Medgar Evers College in the second game of the 2000-01 season. The 18 points allowed also marks the lowest allowed since a 65-21 win at Marywood University on December 2, 2006.
Caron and Kudzmas have been integral parts of the resurgence of the Blue and White women's basketball team. Though both have fought through difficult injuries, they have remained steadfast parts of the program. They have helped the Cavaliers to 81 wins, including 59 CSAC victories. The duo has appeared in 173 games, totaling 740 points, 591 rebound and 224 assists.
All 13 dressed players saw action tonight, each playing at least eight minutes. All 13 also recorded at least two points and 12 secured at least two rebounds. Junior
Brittany Sandone led the charge with 11 points, while freshman
Meghan Martin and sophomore
Amber Keys added 10 points each. Freshman
Christine Ingargiola grabbed a career high 10 rebounds.
Both team struggled early, as the score remained scoreless nearly three minutes into action. After a
Annie Rivituso free throw, junior
Maggie McElroy hit consecutive three pointers and the Blue and White were on its way. The lead swelled to 26-5 after freshman
Dana Peterson's lay-up with nine minutes to play in the opening half. After 20 minutes, the Cavaliers held a commanding 50-7 lead.
Cabrini held the Gators to 8-39 shooting, including 1-14 from three point range. The Blue and White also turned 33 Notre Dame turnovers into 50 points and outrebounded the Gators 53-28. The Cavaliers' 24 offensive rebounds led to 20 second chance points.
McElroy and freshman
Maura O'Connell scored career highs with nine points, while McElroy's game high six assists also marked a career best. Kudzmas finished with a season high eight points, while freshman Lucy Neuber's six points and four boards also marked career highs.
Freshman Kamelya Medina led the Gators (1-20, 1-14 CSAC) with 10 points, while fellow freshman Danielle Hipkins grabbed seven boards.
The Cavaliers will close their regular season on Saturday when they host Marywood University (14-10, 11-4). Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Nerney Field House.
