Volleyball Goes 2-1 at F&M Scramble

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Cabrini volleyball team improved to 9-3 on the season after today's 2-1 performance at the Franklin & Marshall College Scramble. The Cavaliers opened the day with a 3-1 loss to Susquehanna before beating Franklin & Marshall 3-1 and College of Mt. St. Vincent 3-0.

In the first match of the day, the Blue and White took the first set from Susquehanna 25-14, before the Crusaders rallied to take the next three sets 25-21, 25-23 and an astounding 33-31.

Sophomore Jen Grenauer led a balanced attack, that included five players with at least six kills. Grenauer fired 15 kills, while freshman Kelly Guarino added 11. Seniors Sophia Sokolovich and Danielle Carrozza recorded 10 digs each, while sophomore Cassidy Koenig scored 40 assists.

Cabrini had little time to regroup as it faced the undefeated host Diplomats. The Cavaliers earned 25-16 and 25-23 victories in the first two sets, but F&M rallied to take the third 26-24. Cabrini closed the match with a 25-16 victory in the fourth set.

Four Cavaliers posted at least seven kills, led by Carrozza's 16 and Grenauer's 11. Balance was also the key defensively, as five players reached double digits in digs. Sokolovich led the way with 19, while Guarino and Carrozza added 18 and 17, respectively. Seniors Michele Fitz and Kristy Riley also tallied 10 each. Koenig added 35 assists in the victory

The Blue and White closed the day with a dominant 25-10, 25-8, 25-22 win over the College of Mt. St. Vincent. Five Cavaliers posted at least four kills, none more than six. Grenauer and Riley recorded six, while Carrozza and junior Molly Fox added five each. Sokolovich matched a career high with four service aces in the match.

Carrozza and Grenauer were named to the Scramble All-Tournament Team.

The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Chester, Pa. for the Widener University Tri-Match. The Blue and White will face the host at 10:00 a.m. and Haverford College at noon.
