Women's Soccer Forges Tie With Gwynedd Mercy

Box Score

RADNOR, Pa. – For the fourth time in their last five meetings, 110 minutes was not enough time to determine a winner between the Cabrini and Gwynedd Mercy women's soccer teams.  In today's rematch of the 2012 Colonial States Athletic Conference championship game, the teams battled to a 1-1 draw.  The Cavaliers now stand at 2-2-3, including 0-0-1 in the CSAC.

The game's opening 45 minutes play to a scoreless draw, despite several scoring opportunities.  The Cavaliers fired its first shot of the game just 39 seconds into the action and tallied nine shots before the halftime break.

The Blue and White continued to pepper the Gwynedd Mercy goal after the halftime break but could not break through.  Sophomores Kaitlyn Cooper and Julianna Ardire found the cross bar on two of Cabrini's 16 second half shots.

Senior MaryKate McCann finally opened the score book when sophomore Kerri Hinkelmon found her in the 74th minute.  The goal was McCann's first since October 25, 2011 and just the second of her career.

The lead, however, was short lived as the Griffins evened the score at 1-1 just 21 seconds after McCann's goal. The score remained even after 90 minutes sending the teams to overtime.

The Cavaliers continued to press for the game-winner, outshooting Gwynedd Mercy 9-0 in the extra 20 minutes of play, but the victory was not to be.

For the game, Cabrini attempted a season-high 33 shots, including 14 on target.  Cooper led the team with seven shots, while McCann and junior Melissa Scanzano added five shots each.

Freshman goaltender Marissa Jenkins recorded four saves on the day.

Sophomore Jess Tadley posted 13 saves for the Griffins (0-6-2, 0-0-1 CSAC).

Cabrini will return to the Edith Robb Dixon Field pitch on Wednesday when they host Neumann University (1-7, 0-2 CSAC) in conference action.  Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
