RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's soccer team suffered its first CSAC loss of the season today as it fell to Neumann University 2-1 at Edith Rob Dixon Field. The defeat drops the Cavaliers to 2-3-3 overall and 0-1-1 in the league.
The match remained scoreless until the 33rd minute when Cabrini freshman
Allie Vallen found the back of the net for her first career goal. Despite owning a 9-2 advantage in shots, the Cavaliers finished just one of their opportunities, carrying the 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.
While both teams emerged from the halftime break with renewed energy, it was the Knights who managed to convert their chances. Neumann evened the score in the 67th minute before scoring the game-winner 10 minutes later.
The Blue and White fired 14 shots to Neumann's nine and secured five corner kicks, while the Knights earned three. Sophomore
Devon Miller recorded a match-high four shots for the Cavaliers. Neumann's goal scorers, Alexa DeRose and Emily Sanders led the Knights with three shots each.
Freshman goaltender
Marissa Jenkins had three saves for Cabrini, while Briana King posted seven saves for Neumann (2-7, 1-2 CSAC).
The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday as the final match of Homecoming 2013. The Blue and White will face Cairn University (2-5, 0-2 CSAC) at 6:30 p.m. at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
