Volleyball Improves to 3-0 in CSAC

Box Score

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini College volleyball team improved to 13-3 on the season and 3-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with tonight's 3-0 win over the Immaculata University Mighty Macs.  The victory also extends the Blue and White's win streak to six matches.

The Cavaliers wasted little time taking command of the opening set, scoring the first seven points of the match.  Senior Michele Fitz and freshman Kelly Guarino posted four kills each, as Cabrini took the first set 25-13.

The second set started as did the first, with the Blue and White building a 5-0 lead.  Minutes later, Cabrini extended its lead to 13-3 and never looked back, earning a 25-10 second set victory.  Fitz and fellow senior Danielle Carrozza combined for seven kills in the set, while a trio of Cavaliers scored service aces in the frame.

Unlike the first two sets, the Cavaliers could not put the Mighty Macs away in the early going.  Trailing 4-3, Immaculata tallied three consecutive to take a 6-4 lead, its first of the match.  The Mighty Macs built their lead to as many as four points before the Blue and White tied the score at 14.

Down 20-19, the Cavaliers took control of the action, scoring the next five points to build a 24-20 lead, before ultimately taking the final set 25-21.

Carrozza earned her fifth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 12 digs.  Fitz paired nine kills with four total blocks.  Senior Kristy Riley added three service aces and six digs, while Guarino recorded five kills, nine digs and a pair of service aces.  Sophomore Cassidy Koenig added 28 assists on the night.

Sophomore Jamie Rombach led Immaculata (4-9, 0-1 CSAC) with six kills, while freshman Molly Truitt posted 13 digs.

Cabrini will return to the court on Saturday when it hosts Cairn University as part of Homecoming 2013.  First serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Nerney Field House.
