Women's Soccer Explodes for 5-0 CSAC Win

Box Score

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's soccer team rebounded from last week's CSAC loss in a big way.  The Cavaliers had their biggest scoring output of the season in tonight's 5-0 win over the visiting Cairn University Highlanders.  The victory evened Cabrini's overall land CSAC marks to 3-3-3 and 1-1-1, respectively.

Junior Melissa Scanzano opened the scoring in the 15th minute when she converted a pass from fellow junior Gabby Meck into her first goal of the year.  Cabrini doubled its lead in the 29th minute when senior Breaghann Smith's chip found sophomore Dana Peterson for her third tally of the season.

The Blue and White turned up the pressure after the halftime break. In the 57th minute Peterson found fellow sophomore Meghan Martin for her team-leading fourth goal of the season, snapping a six match scoreless streak.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Cooper recorded her first point of the season when found sophomore Devon Miller for a rocket shot in the 65th minute.  Less than two minutes later, a Cairn handball gave Cabrini a penalty shot that senior Laureen Pallister finished for her first of the season.

Cabrini outshot Cairn 25-2, including a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal.  Meck, Martin and freshman Allie Vallen share game high honors with three shots each, while 10 other Cavalies recorded at least one shot.

Freshman goaltender Marissa Jenkins made one save to record her second shutout.

Naomi Collipp made eight saves in net for the Highlanders (2-6-1, 0-3-1 CSAC).

The Cavaliers will travel to Allentown, Pa. on Tuesday to face Cedar Crest College (2-6, 0-1 CSAC) on Tuesday.  Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
