BALTIMORE, Md. – The Cabrini College volleyball team suffered its first losses of the season this afternoon, falling to Stevenson University and Johns Hopkins University in the first day of the Greg Giovanazzi Invitational, hosted by Johns Hopkins. The losses drop the Blue and White to 4-2 on the year.
The Cavaliers opened the afternoon with a 25-15, 25-15, 25-20 straight set loss to Stevenson. Senior Danielle Carrozza and sophomore Jen Grenauer posted six kills each, the 12 total a season low for the duo.
Senior Sophia Sokolovich recorded 12 digs, while sophomore setter Cassidy Koenig added 17 assists in the match.
Imani Hudson led Stevenson (6-0) with 12 kills and 11 digs.
In their second match, the Cavaliers faced the host Blue Jays. Cabrini came out on fire, taking the first set 25-14 before Hopkins rallied to take the next three, 25-23, 25-20, 25-18. Carrozza posted season-highs with 17 kills and 25 digs. Freshman Kelly Guarino also notched season-highs with nine kills and 16 digs.
Sokolovich chipped in with 17 digs, while Koenig added 33 assist. Senior Michele Fitz added five total blocks to her five kills in the match.
Johns Hopkins (2-3) was led by Meagan Donohoe's 25 kills.
The Cavaliers will return to the court on Saturday morning, as they face Goucher College (5-2) at 10:00 a.m. and North Carolina Wesleyan College (0-4) at 12:00 noon.
