Women's Soccer Tallies First Win of 2013

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini finally found its offensive touch and in the process scored its first win of the season, a 4-1 victory over the visiting Goucher College Gophers this evening at Edith Robb Dixon Field.  The victory improves the club to 1-0-2 on the season.

The Cavaliers went on the attack from eh opening touch, building an early advantage in the game's opening minute.  A cross by junior Gabby Meck found sophomore Dana Peterson alone in the middle of the penalty box for the sophomore's first tally of 2013.

Cabrini held its lead until a defensive miscue sent the ball into Cabrini's net, tying the game at 1-1 in the 24th minute.  In the 36th minute, freshman Jessica Breuning put the Blue and White ahead for good with her first collegiate goal off a pass from senior Bree Thompson.

After 45 minutes, the Cavaliers had built a 2-1 advantage after outshooting Goucher 12-2 and securing five corner kicks to none for the Gophers.

Meck put the game away midway through the second half.  The junior turned a pass from sophomore Devin Miller into her first tally of the season in the 55th minute.  Meck was back on the attack six minutes later, Peterson returned the favor, finding Meck for her second of the day.

The 19 shots and eight shots on goal mark a season high for the Cavaliers.  The five total points and two goals are both career highs for Meck.  Peterson and sophomore Kaitlyn Cooper fired four shots each.  Freshman goaltender Marissa Jenkins made three saves to record her first collegiate victory.

Goaltenders Juliana Harkavya and Liz Stradtman combined for four saves for Goucher  (1-2).

The Blue and White will return to action on Tuesday when they cross the street to face Eastern University (0-2-1) in the annual Battle for Eagle Road.  Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
