Volleyball Improves to 6-2 With Saturday Sweeps

BALTIMORE, Md. – Off to its best start since the 2010 season, the Cabrini volleyball team improved to 6-2 on the season with today's 3-0 wins over Gwynedd-Mercy College and North Carolina Wesleyan College at the Greg Giovanazzi Memorial Invitational at Johns Hopkins University.

After a late schedule change, the Cavaliers opened the day facing conference rival Gwynedd-Mercy in a nonconference match. The Blue and White dominated the action, en route to a 25-18, 25-16, 25-13 straight set win.

Sophomore Jen Grenauer led the way with 14 kills and a career high 11 digs. Sophomore Harlee Scanlan recorded a career high 10 digs, while junior Dana Wisniewski pairs five service aces with five total blocks, both career bests. Sophomore Cassidy Koenig added 26 assists and four service aces.

In their second match of the afternoon, the Cavaliers downed N.C. Wesleyan 25-13, 25-12, 25-10. Senior Danielle Carrozza paced the Blue and White with 18 kills and 11 digs. Fellow senior Sophia Sokolovich posted 17 digs, while classmate Kristy Riley recorded four service aces and 11 digs. Koenig chipped in with 38 assists in the nightcap.

The Cavaliers will open Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Thursday when they welcome the same Gwynedd-Mercy (1-7) squad to Nerney Field House. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m.
