Women's Basketball Streak Snaped at Keystone

Box Score

LA PLUME, Pa – The Cabrini women's basketball team's four game win streak came to an end today with a 64-55 loss at Keystone College.  The loss drops the Blue and White to 12-4 overall and 6-1 in the Colona States Athletic Conference and marks the team's first conference loss in nearly two years.

After an opening 20 minutes that saw both teams build seven point leads, the Cavaliers held a slim 27-26 lead at the break.  The opening 10 minutes of the second stanza played out much like the first, featuring seven ties, the last coming with 9:51 to play.

A Keystone fast break lay-up broke deadlock and sent the Giants on a 7-0 run over the next two minutes.  The Cavaliers cut their deficit to 57-55 with 1:53 to play but missed six consecutive free throws and five field goal attempts in the game's final minutes.

The Blue and White struggled with its shooting touch, connecting on just 23-82 from the floor, including 4-16 from three point range.  The biggest impact of its shooting woes appeared on the free throw line, where the team shot just 5-15, 1-9 in the second half alone.

Junior Amber Keys led the Cavaliers with 16 points and grabbed six rebounds.  Senior Brittany Sandone added 12 points, while sophomore Dana Peterson chipped in with nine points.  Senior Annie Rivituso matched a season high with 10 boards and tallied eight points.

Chantel Blake led the Giants (10-5, 4-2 CSAC) with a double double, posting 12 points and 11 rebounds.  Alyssa Cuomo matched Blake with 12 points, while Jazmyn Robinson recorded 10 assists in the win.

The Cavaliers have little time to regroup as they welcome Marywood University (11-4, 6-1 CSAC) to Nerney Field House on Monday.  The game is schedule to tip at 6:00 p.m. as the opener of a women's and men's CSAC doubleheader, with the men to face Marywood at 8:00 p.m.
