NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Cabrini women's basketball team fell to 8-3 on the season after today's 69-58 loss at New York University in the final game of the NYU Holiday Classic in Manhattan.
The Blue and White struggled with its shooting touch, connecting on just 36.5% from the field, including 3-16 from three points range. The Cavaliers also hit just 9-16 from the free throw line.
Defensively, the Cavaliers were on their game, holding the Violets to 39% shooting and 3-13 from beyond the arc. Cabrini also forced 19 turnovers, which it converted into 15 points. NYU took advantage of its chances from the charity stripe, where it shot 24-37.
Despite foul trouble, junior
Megan Decker led the way with 16 points on 7-11 shooting. The junior also grabbed four rebounds in 18 minutes of action. Senior
Brittany Sandone was named to the All-Classic Team after tallying 12 points, four rebounds and five assists on the day. Junior
Amber Keys added 10 points and four boards off the bench before fouling out.
Senior
Annie Rivituso matched a season-high with 10 rebounds, while fellow senior
Colleen Stewart recorded a career-high four blocked shots.
Kaitlyn Read led NYU (10-0) with 13 points, while Riley Wurtz added 12 in the win.
The Blue and White will return to Nerney field house on Wednesday as it hosts Baptist Bible College (0-5, 0-2 CSAC). Tip is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. as the opener of a CSAC hoops double-dip. The No. 4 Cabrini men (9-0, 3-0 CSAC) will face Cairn University (0-10, 0-4 CSAC) at 8:00 p.m.
