Volleyball Tabbed as CSAC Preseason Favorite

View Complete CSAC Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll

Aston, Pa. – After winning four of the last five CSAC championships, the league's coaches have tabbed the Cabrini volleyball team as the 2014 preseason favorite.  The Cavaliers earned 138 total points, including six of the 12 first place votes to top the CSAC Presason Coaches Poll.

Neumann, Cabrini's opponent in each of the last three CSAC championship matches, received five first-place votes and 132 points in the poll, while Cairn grabbed the final first place vote and finished third with 113 points.

The Blue and White posted its best season in program history in 2013, finishing the year with a 29-5 overall record, including a perfect 11-0 in CSAC action.  The club made its fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, taking Christopher Newport to a fifth set before falling 15-12.

Despite the loss of four seniors, including Danielle Carroza, the program's first AVCA All-American, head coach Eric Schaefer returns an experienced and talented group of student-athletes.  Leading the way will be junior setter Cassidy Koening, who earned ECAC South all-Star recognition last year.  Junior Jen Grenauer also returns after earning All-CSAC Second Team recognition last season, while sophomore Kelly Guarino received Honorable Mention.

The Cavaliers will open their 2014 campaign on Friday, as they travel to Newport News, Va. for the Captains Classic at Christopher Newport.  The Blue and White will face Virginia Wesleyan and Southern Virginia on Friday, before meeting Washington and Lee and the No. 25 host Captains on Saturday.
