The Cabrini women's soccer team will make its fourth international trip in 2018, as the Cavaliers will spend a week in Cape Town, South Africa.
Former South African President and anti-apartheid activist Nelson Mandela once stated, "Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair. It is more powerful than government in breaking down racial barriers."
The Cavaliers hope to do just that during their trip to South Africa. On the field, the Blue and White will face several area soccer clubs, universities, and a township team.
Cabrini's experience will also connect the student-athletes with the people of South Africa, as well as their history and culture.
The team will experience Cape Town highlights including a trip to Robbin Island, the island prison that once held Mandela for 18 years before the abolition of apartheid.
The Cavaliers will also have opportunities for once in a lifetime experiences, including diving with great white sharks and visiting some of the world's best surf spots.
The Blue and White also hopes to leave its mark on Cape Town by spending two half-day sessions working with disadvantaged children.
