Last Meeting: Owls escape with narrow 2-1 victory
The Blue and White opened up the 2016 slate when they traveled to Bryn Mawr, PA, with the Owls coming away with a narrow 2-1 victory over the Cavs.
Trailing 2-1 in the 90th minute, the Cavaliers forced a Bryn Mawr save and a pair of corner kicks, but its final attempt at the net saw the ball cross the goal line just after the clock struck 0:00.
The Blue and White outshot the Owls 13-7, including 7-3 in shots on goal. Junior
Kelsee Tironi fired a game-high three shots and joined Woodruff and fellow junior
Taylor Tralie with two shots on target.
Cabrini also earned six corner kicks to none for Bryn Mawr, including four coming in the final 20 minutes of action.
Cabrini Last Time Out: Cavs fall 3-0 to Centenary in CSAC Semifinal
The Cabrini women's soccer team saw its streak of five consecutive conference championships come to an end in what would be their final game of 2016, as it suffered a 3-0 loss to Centenary University in the semifinal round of the Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament.
Both teams struggled to find their offense early on as they combined for just 11 shots. The clubs totaled four shots in the opening 45 minutes, but the score sheet remained clean after the first stanza.
The Cyclones broke through the Blue and White defense in the 71st minute on a header by sophomore Kara LaPolice. Eleven minutes later, Centenary added a second goal.
Cabrini continued to press for a goal, but an 87th minute header bounced off the cross bar. Less than a minute later, Centenary sealed the win with a goal off a direct kick.
Bryn Mawr Last Time Out: Owls cap season with 4-0 victory over John Jay
Senior Katherine Nickols fittingly tallied the game-winner for Bryn Mawr on the day, while the youth movement of the Owls proved equally as healthy with freshman Emily Elmore tallying a brace herself. Fellow freshman Genevieve Main posted a goal and an assist as well, while Leah Baer made the lone save required to post Bryn Mawr's first shutout of the season.
The season ending win over John Jay was just the Owl's second of 2016, as they would finish the year with a 2-6-1 record.
5 Factors for Cabrini
- The quartet of last year's seniors, Jess Breuning, Meghan Horn, Marissa Jenkins and Allie Vallen will surely be missed as they proved to be one of the most successful classes in program history, compiling 45 wins during their careers, including a 35-3-5 mark in conference games and three consecutive CSAC titles.
- The Cavaliers must get off to a faster start than in last season's matchup against the Owls as they tallied just two shots in the first 32 minutes of action.
- The Blue and White allowed the third fewest goals per game in the CSAC in 2016 at 1.56.
- The Cavs return their top four points leaders in senior Taylor Tralie (16), sophomore Katelyn Gilinger (12), Alex Garces (9), and sophomore Meghan Horn (8).
- Look for Tralie to shoot early and often as the senior totaled 54 shots in 2016, tied for the eighth most in the CSAC.
5 Factors for Bryn Mawr
- The Owls will have to find a way to generate offense as they averaged just one goal per game in 2016.
- 2016 senior Katherine Nickols will be missed as she led the team with seven points in eight games and accounted for exactly 1/3 of the Owl's goals.
- Junior keeper Leah Baer returns to net for the Owls after leading the team with 48 saves.
- Bryn Mawr was held scoreless in four of their nine games in 2016 and totaled just 14 shots in those contests.
- The Owls had a season high 18 shots in their season finale against John Jay, which resulted in a 4-0 victory.
