What is at Stake?
The winner of today's matchup will advance to the Atlantic East Conference Championship game on Saturday, November 3rd.
Cabrini or Immaculata will then face the winner of today's other semifinal women's soccer game between No. 2 seeded Wesley College and No. 4 seeded Marywood University. Wesley enters today's match with a 9-3-2 overall record and a 4-1-1 mark in conference play, while Marywood own a 7-11 overall mark and 3-3 conference record.
Last Meeting and Last Time Out: Women's Soccer Caps Regular Season With Draw Against Immaculata (10/24/18, Immaculata, PA)
Cabrini held a 17-12 advantage in shots, including a 9-3 advantage in the first half, and limited the Macs to three corners, compared to the Cavaliers' 12. Junior
Katelyn Gilinger paced the offense with four shots on the night, three of which landed on goal, while classmate
Marissa Portelli recorded three shots.
Sophomore
Brittany Purdy tallied Cabrini's lone goal, needing just one shots to do so, in the 34th minute of play. Freshman
Riley Underwood took advantage of a loose ball in front of the Macs net and sent it Purdy's way. The Galloway, NJ native pushed the ball past the arms of the IU keeper for the games first goal.
The 1-0 lead would hold through halftime until Immaculata's Carrie Quigley evened things at one a piece in the 66th minute following a strike from the top of the box. A pair of late shots on goal from Cabrini couldn't find home as the game headed to overtime.
One shot from each team highlighted the first extra period, while the second overtime featured a flurry of offensive action from both squads. Cabrini tallied a pair of corners within 40 seconds of each other, but couldn't push one past Immaculata's Brooke Shissler.
The Mighty Macs also recorded a pair of corners followed by shots from Quigley and Riley Rudd, but sophomore
Ashley Tutzauer denied the IU attack. The dust would eventually settle in the aforementioned 1-1 draw. Tutzauer would finish her night with five saves.
Immaculata Last Time Out: Mighty Macs Upset Neumann In Double Overtime (10/29/18, Aston, PA)
The No. 6 seeded Immaculata University Mighty Macs scored a thrilling 3-2 double overtime victory on Monday to upset the No. 3 seeded Neumann University Knights in the opening round of the inaugural Atlantic East Conference women's soccer tournament.
Riley Rudd powered the upset as she tallied a pair of goals, the final being the game winner in the 105th minute.
Neumann opened the scoring in the 25th minute to grab the early lead. The 1-0 Knights' advantage would stand through the intermission until Rudd corralled a free kick from teammate Carly Quigley and pushed it past the Neumann keeper in the 50th minute to even the score at one a piece.
The Knights quickly responded with a goal in the 58th minute to reclaim the lead, but couldn't stymie the Macs attack as they again evened things in the 74th minute. The 2-2 score would hold steady through regulation and the first overtime period.
Rudd tally in the 105th minute proved to be the golden goal as roped a ball from 30 yards out and bent it just inside the far post.
In total, the Knights held an 18-17 advantage in shots, including an 11-8 advantage in shots on goal, and a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.
