Last Meeting: Cabrini 66, Eastern 53 (11/15/17, St. Davids, PA)
Head coachÂ
Kate Pearson received key performances from a handful of underclassmen, highlighted by sophomore
Lexi Edwards who tallied a game high 18 points in her Blue and White debut. FreshmanÂ
Kirsten Searcy chipped in seven points along with three rebounds and two assists.Â
JuniorÂ
Meghan Matthews stuffed the stat sheet as she needed just one game to pick up her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 boards. SeniorÂ
Nomi Washington tied her career high with seven steals, while also adding 12 points.Â
The first quarter featured even play from both sides as neither team was able to gain much ground, resulting in a 15-14 advantage for the Cavs after the first 10 minutes.Â
Cabrini opened up the second quarter with a 12-2 run, capped by a Matthews three pointer, to put them up 27-16 with just over five minutes left in the half. The Eagles managed to slowly chip away at the deficit as they trailed by just six heading into the intermission.Â
A quick 7-2 spurt from the Eagles to open up the third quarter cut the Cavs' lead to just one, but Edwards answered the call for the Blue and White as she earned three the old fashioned way with a basket and the foul.Â
Up just 36-34 with 6:20 left in the third, Cabrini rattled off a clutch 10-2 run to go back up by 10. A pair of free throws from Eagles' senior Taylor Price capped the scoring in the third with the Cavs holding a 46-38 lead.Â
Eastern refused to go down quietly in the fourth, but a trio of underclassmen for the Cavs helped keep the Eagles comeback hopes at bay. SophomoreÂ
Kate Lannon, along with Edwards and Searcy combined for eight points in the quarter as the Cavs were able to outlast the Eagles for the win.
Cabrini Last Time Out: Cabrini 46, Scranton 55Â (3/3/18, Scranton, PA)
Despite the hard fought 55-46 loss to the No. 8 Royals in the NCAA Second Round, the Blue and White finished with a program record 26 wins, highlighted by a program and Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) record 24 game winning streak.
SophomoreÂ
Meghan Matthews paced the Cavalier offense as she tallied a team high 14 points, including three 3-pointers, while chipping in five rebounds and four steals on the defensive end. JuniorÂ
Nomi Washington added nine points and five rebounds, while sophomoreÂ
Cassidy Gallagherfinished with eight points.Â
A triple from sophomore
Kate Lannon sparked a 12-to-2 run for Cabrini giving way to their largest lead of the game, 21-12, with just over seven minutes left in the second quarter. Scranton would slowly chip away at the Cavs' lead, however, as they rattled off an 8-to-2 run in response to trim their deficit to just three points. The Blue and White would hold onto the three point advantage heading into the half leading 25-22.Â
As history tends to repeat itself, the Royals came out of the halftime break and caught fire in the third quarter as they hit 6-of-9 from the field, while holding the Blue and White to 3-of-14 from the field to steal the lead heading into the final quarter at 38-32.
A triple from senior Katie Broderick on Scranton's first possession of the quarter pushed the Royals' lead to 41-32, but a pair of free throws and a deep trey from Matthews cut the Cavaliers' deficit to just four points with 7:14 remaining.Â
That is unfortunately as close as the Blue and White would come as Scranton would quickly push their lead back to nine points and coast to the eventual 55-46 final.Â
Eastern Last Time Out: Eastern 80, Lebanon Valley 64Â (11/10/18, St. Davids, PA)
The Eagles trailed by three at half and by as many as six in the third quarter before closing out the period on a 6-0 run to head to the fourth up 57-53. Namoi Harris made a pair of free throws to start the burst. Viki Kneis a layup in traffic to put the Eagles up two and the squad finished the quarter on a fast break lay-up from Bria Rivers on a nice pass from Kneis. Brianna Young-Harris started the break with a strong rebound and good push on the dribble.
The Dutchmen scored the first seven points of the fourth to build a 60-57 edge.
The game changed in an instant. Robinson put back an offensive rebound for a a three-point play to tie the game. After a pair of free throws from Jaelyn Harris, Robinson connected on a 3-pointer from the wing to put the Eagles up five.
The Eastern defensive pressure then took its toll on the guests. A steal from Young-Harris led to another pair of free throws from Jaelyn Harris. DaNaziah Brown then put the Eagles up nine with a solo dribbling exhibition and lay-up that sent the crowd into a frenzy. The sophomore guard then stole a pss and fed Jaelyn Harris for another bucket.
The Eastern lead grew to 15 before the Dutchmen managed to score on a free throw, and the Eagles led 80-61 with a little over two minutes to play. The 23-1 run took just a little over four and a half minutes.
Jaelyn Harris scored 19 in her debut. Kneis finished with 12 points and eight rebounds and Young-Harris, who was not expected to play after an injury in an exhibition contest at UMBC on Thursday, had 11 points and seven rebounds.
