Last Meeting: Women's Soccer Stumbles at Alvernia (9/17/16)
Alvernia opened the scoring in the 31st minute, as a Cabrini foul in the penalty area gave the Crusaders a penalty kick, converted by Bailey Stover.
The score remained 1-0 through the halftime break, but Alvernia returned to the scoring column less than two minutes into the second half. A header off a Crusaders' corner kick bounced off the post, but Lauren Gough was in position to put the ball back into the net.
Junior Alex Garces led the Blue and White with three of its five shots on the day and joined fellow junor
Diana VanSickle and
Taylor Tralie with one shot on goal each.
Cabrini Last Time Out: Women's Soccer Outlasts Rutgers-Camden (9/19/18)
Both teams nearly matched the other throughout the 90 minute match, as the Scarlet Raptors held a narrow advantage in shots (9-7) and corner kicks (2-1), while the Blue and White put more shots on goal (6-5) and ultimately came away with the 2-1 victory.
Cabrini had a pair of early chances, both coming off the foot of sophomore Alex Garces, as the forward put two shots on goal in the 10th and 16th minute, respectively. After a flurry of failed attacks and counter-attacks from both sides, the Cavs finally broke through in the 41st minute to claim the 1-0 lead.
Freshman
Kelly Kane lofted a beautiful ball towards the left post for sophomore
Brittany Purdy who managed to corral the pass and deliver a high strike past Scarlet Raptors' keeper Natalie Eberhardt for her second goal of the season.
The Blue and White carried the 1-0 lead, and momentum, through the intermission until they doubled down in the 69th minute as junior
Katelyn Gilinger celebrated her birthday in style with her team leading third goal of the year. Thanks to a pass from senior
Tori Kasper that sailed over the defense, Gilinger was able to capitalize on a breakaway and chip the ball over a charging Eberhardt to stake Cabrini with the 2-0 lead.
Alvernia Last Time Out: Golden Wolves Top Mighty Macs 2-1 (9/19/18)
Alison Hyde scored two goals to lead Alvernia University to a 2-1 win over the hosting Immaculata University Mighty Macs on Wednesday evening in a non-conference match up.
Hyde tallied the first goal of the game in the 42nd minute thanks to an assist by Grace Silva. Golden Wolves keeper Lily Sankey made two saves in the first half to keep Alvernia in front 1-0 at the break.
Hyde gave the Wolves an important insurance goal in the 79th minute following a great pass by MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week Kyla Gibson. The Mighty Macs would respond, however, as they pushed across their first goal of the game in the 87th minute. It would prove too little, too late for the hosts as Alvernia would hang on for the 2-1 final.
