At halftime of today's game, Cabrini will honor its former women's cross country and tennis student-athletes who were named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) 25th Anniversary Team.
Considering all student-athletes who competed in conference-sponsored sports in the original Pennsylvania Athletic Conference and the current CSAC, the top 25 student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport were identified using a point system based on recognition earned as a member of the conference from all-conference awards in addition to major end of season awards such as Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year.
A total of 458 PAC/CSAC student-athletes were recognized on the Anniversary Teams, led by 93 student-athletes from Cabrini University.
Last Meeting: Cabrini 49, Wesley 38 (12/4/06, Dover, DE)
Sophomore Melissa Benedetti came off the bench to score seven key points down the stretch as the visiting Cavaliers put away Wesley by a 49-38 final. Benedetti tossed in three pivotal buckets, including a traditional three-point play, igniting a 10-point run that turned a slim 37-34 lead with 6:40 left into a 13-point bulge with 1:41 to go.
Sophomore forward Kayleen Smith grabbed a career-high 11 boards for the Cavaliers, who ran up a 54-36 rebounding edge and held their opponents under 40 points for the fourth time in five games.
The Cavs came from eight points down in the first half, using an 11-2 run to erase an 18-10 deficit and take their first lead of the game, 21-20, with 2:58 left in the half. Benedetti triggered this run as well, scoring the first three points before sophomore Nikki Duggan drilled back-to-back buckets, one of them a three-point dagger.
Cabrini held a 25-23 halftime edge and led throughout the second half, but never by more than six until the final flurry.
Cabrini Last Time Out: Cabrini 75, Marywood 45 (1/9/19, Radnor, PA)
The sophomore duo of
Kate Lannon and
Lexi Edwards led the way for the Blue and White as they combined for 34 points. Edwards was especially effective as she needed just 16 minutes to rack up 15 points, while Lannon's 19 points marked a team high.
Sophomore
Ashley Tutzauer rounded out the Cavs in double figures thanks to a 14 point effort, while freshman
Abi Fricke recorded a season high eight points after finishing a perfect 3-3 from the field.
The Blue and White trailed for just 31 seconds as the Pacers opened up the scoring with three quick points. The Cavs quickly rounded into shape, however as they reeled off a 18-to-1 run to take a commanding 18-4 lead with 2:31 to go in the first. A triple from Lannon to give the Cavs a 6-4 lead highlighted the run and swung momentum for the Blue and White as they led 21-9 after one.
Cabrini kept their foot on the gas in the second quarter as they outscored the Pacers by an 18-5 margin to balloon the lead to 39-14 at the intermission.
Thanks to an aggressive Cavalier defense, the Pacers couldn't string enough baskets together in the second half to mount a comeback as the Blue and White were able to coast to a comfortable 30 point victory.
Wesley Last Time Out: Wesley 86, Valley Forge 35 (1/10/19, Phoenixville, PA)
The Wesley College women's basketball team were clicking on all cylinders on Thursday and earned a dominating 86-35 win on the road over the Valley Forge Patriots.
