The No. 6 seeded Mighty Macs entered the second round of last year's AEC tournament thanks to a 3-2 victory over the No. 3 seeded Knights in the quarterfinal match and did just enough to find a way to win last season's semifinal match against the Cavs.
Cabrini held a distinct 22-5 advantage in shots, including a a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal, while also attempting 10 corner kicks to Immaculata's six.
Mighty Mac keeper Brooke Shissler anchored the visiting back line as she proved up to the task of stopping the Blue and White attack. Shissler's nine saves were her most in a shutout this season.
Cabrini sophomore
Kait Cloud paced the team with four shots, while six other Cavaliers tallied two shots each.
Immaculata opened the scoring in the second minute as a corner from Carrie Quigley missed its original target, but found an uncovered Carly Quigley just inside the 18 yard box. (Carly) Quigley delivered a strike past sophomore
Ashley Tutzauer for the 1-0 advantage. Just six minutes later, Quigley doubled the Macs lead with her second goal of the game as she teed up a shot from 40 yards out.
Facing a 2-0 deficit, the Cavaliers turned up the pressure, resulting in a 10-0 advantage in shots over the next 60 minutes, but couldn't find the back of the net.
Immaculata capitalized on the Cavs offensive minded attack as the IU defense dumped a ball deep in the Cabrini zone, a ball that would ultimately be won by the Macs' Riley Rudd. Rudd delivered with goal in the 84th minute to seal the victory over Cabrini.
Cabrini Last Time Out: Cabrini 4, Neumann 0 (10/9/19, Aston, PA)
The Blue and White had their way on offense as they tallied a 14-4 advantage in shots, including a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal, while also finishing with a 5-2 advantage in corners.
Seniors
Katelyn Gilinger and
Diana VanSickle paced the attack as each finished with four points. VanSickle netted a pair of goals on three shots, while Gilinger added a goal and two assists on two shots. Junior
Maria Haganrounded out the Cavs to mark the scoring column with a goal in the 53rd minute.
After a tightly contested first half in which the Cavs held just a 4-1 advantage in shots, while still being knotted at zero on the scoreboard, VanSickle opened the scoring for the Blue and White with a strike in the 51st minute. Just over two minutes later, Hagan doubled Cabrini's lead following a foul on Neumann's Emily Cooper in box. The Philadelphia native delivered with a PK goal for the 2-0 lead.
Gilinger made it a 3-0 Cavalier advantage two minutes later with an unassisted strike in the 55th minute for her fifth goal of the season.
Cabrini would cap their scoring in the 63rd minute after VanSickle netted her second goal of the day with, courtesy of another assist from Gilinger.
Immaculata Last Time Out: Immaculata 2, Marymount 0 (10/9/19, Arlington, VA)
Immaculata and Marymount were locked in a defensive battle for the first 79 minutes of play, until the Mighty Macs' Bridget McDonough put the Macs on the scoreboard in the 80th minute thanks to assist from Riley Rudd.
Just moments later, Carly Quigley doubled the Macs' lead with an unassisted tally in the 81st minute to make it a 2-0 advantage for Immaculata. The 2-0 score would hold for remaining nine minutes of play.
In total, Immaculata outshot the Saints 18-8, while also owning a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Macs also finished with a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
