Last Meeting: Cabrini 2, Bryn Mawr 1 (9/5/18, St. Davids, PA)
Despite tallying the same number of shots (eight) and holding a slight advantage in corner kicks (4-3) against the Eagles, the Blue and White were held to just one goal thanks to a stiff Eastern defense. The back line allowed the Cavs just three shots on goal, and none after the 65th minute.
Forward Alex Garces netted Cabrini's lone goal in the 51st minute to cut the Eagles' lead in half. The junior forced a turnover in the box and lofted the ball over Eastern keeper Adrianna Rowlands for her first goal of the season.
Eastern responded less than five minutes later, however to push their lead back to two in the 55th minute.
The Blue and White would put pressure back on Rowlands nearly 10 minutes later following a shot from senior
Katelyn Gilinger, but the keeper kept the Eagles' lead intact with her second save of the game.
Cabrini Last Time Out: Cabrini 1, Bryn Mawr 0 (8/30/19, Radnor, PA)
It was a tale of two halves for the Cavaliers as they controlled the play in the opening stanza. The Blue and White out shot the Owls 9-2, including a 4-0 advantage in shots on goal, and tallied a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The second half, not including the final three minutes, belonged to Bryn Mawr thanks to an 11-5 advantage in shots and a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal. Cabrini, however, tallied the games only goal in the closing minutes of regulation thanks to goal off the foot of senior
Diana VanSickle with 2:18 seconds left.
Classmate
Katelyn Gilinger played a key role in VanSickle's strike as she applied pressure to Owls' keeper Grecia Prieto, forcing an errant pass for VanSickle to corral.
VanSickle paced the Cavs with three shots on the afternoon, including two on goal, while juniors
Maria Hagan and Alex Garces, along with senior
Marissa Portelli tallied two shots each.
Junior
Ashley Tutzauer provided a slew of clutch saves to anchor the Cavs defensive unit, highlighted by a diving stop with just over 15 minutes to play off a Bryn Mawr free quick taken from just outside the 18 yard box. In total, the junior capped her night with four saves.
Eastern Last Time Out: Eastern 2, Immaculata 0 (8/31/19, Immaculata, PA)
Eastern's Zoe Galvin nearly broke the tie with a strong shot from the left side in the 28th minute, but her effort slipped wide.
The Eagles' Kellie Reith entered the match in the 32nd minute and made an impact with physical challenges for the ball in the attacking third. That effort and mobility paid dividends two minutes later when Reith got on the end of a through ball on the right side and slipped a ball across the face of the goal. The serve eluded the outstretched foot of a sliding Eagle, but Nicole Weenink was in the right spot to pass the ball into the back of the net.
The Mighty Macs closed the first half with intense pressure on the Eastern goal. Eagles' keeper Grace Schreckengast made six of her nine first-half saves in the final six minutes.
While Immaculata carried the early field position in the second half, the Eagles took advantage of some space in the counter. Galvin played a brilliant switching ball in behind the Mighty Mac backs and Weenink took advantage of the space. The senior dribbled past the charging goalkeeper and slipped home her second of the day.
The Eagles had several chances to stretch the lead to three, but Immaculata goalkeeper Brooke Shissler made five stops in the second half.
