Women's Basketball evens record at .500 with win over Neumann

Box Score

ASTON, Pa. – A 46-point second half performance by the Cabrini University women's basketball team propelled the Cavs (12-12, 8-3 Atlantic East) to a 68-49 win over Neumann (11-13, 5-6 Atlantic East) Wednesday night.

With the win, the Cavs remained alone in second place with one game remaining. Cabrini can secure a first-round bye with a win over Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday at home.

Turning back to Wednesday's game, Emma Pyne scored a team-high 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting with a perfect 2-for-2 performance from the three point line. Since being inserted into the starting lineup at the Marywood game back on February 4, Pyne has averaged just over nine points per game.

Katie Rodriguez scored 12 points (6-for-12) from the field and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Giana Rullo scored 11 points and had eight caroms for Cabrini.

Neumann was led by 22 points by Lauren Klieber, with Terea Hunt grabbing ten rebounds.

As has been common all season, Cabrini started off well, going up 13-2 just 3:05 into the game as Miranda Liebtag made a layup on an assist from Abby Paolini to give the Cavs the early edge. Neumann was able to close the gap and overcome the early setback via a 17-2 run that consumed the rest of the quarter to go up 19-15 at the end of the first ten minutes.

Trailing 24-15, Cabrini would claw back slowly but could only muster seven points in the second ten minutes but benefited from Neumann only netting ten points in the second, as the Cavs trailed 29-22 at intermission.

A 25-point outburst in the third quarter – combined with Neumann only getting four points – allowed Cabrini to take control and never look back. A Paolini three-pointer at the 6:06 mark of the third quarter, on an assist from Ella Gordon, gave the Cabrini the lead at 32-30 and they never looked back.

The lead would eventually grow to 64-44 with just 1: 59 left in regulation.

The win marked the 22nd straight win by Cabrini over Neumann, dating back to November 28, 2011.
