RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini field hockey team concluded its non-conference schedule Thursday, topping Arcadia University, 4-2. The Cavaliers are riding a nine-game win streak dating back to September 18 against Swarthmore College.
Freshman midfielder Maura Gordon led the Cabrini attack, scoring two goals in the victory. Gordon's first tally of the contest handed the Cavaliers a one-goal edge at the 9:05 mark of the first half.
Gordon supplied Cabrini with a two-goal cushion just 61 seconds following, beating Arcadia goalkeeper Brittany Rasmussen at the 10:06 mark.
Rasmussen lasted just 39 minutes after the Cavaliers grabbed its second 4-0 lead in the last three games. Senior Melissa Benedetti opened the second period with an unassisted goal in the 36th minute.
Sophomore Shannon Mulhern provided the game's exclamation point in the 39th minute, handing the visitors a four-goal advantage off a feed from junior Lynda Kaufmann.
The Knights trimmed the Cavaliers' lead in half with two goals at the 40:26 and 53:25 marks. Stephanie Buohl and Stephanie Welch supplied the Arcadia offense in an all-for-naught rally.
Cabrini was out-shot 23-20. Gordon spear-headed the Cavaliers' offense, posting a team-high seven shots. Freshman Lauren Alessi tallied four shots.
The Cavaliers registered a 6-4 mark in non-conference action this season.
Senior goalkeeper Elissa Salantri made her first start of the season, collecting eight saves in the win.
Cabrini (12-4, 6-0) resumes Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action Saturday, October 18 at Cedar Crest College. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
