ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cabrini field hockey team captured its 10th consecutive victory and remains unbeaten in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play with a convincing 7-1 win at Cedar Crest College Saturday afternoon. Senior Kate Ryan, freshman Lauren Alessi and freshman Maura Gordon each scored two goals in the victory.
The seven goals scored is a season-high for the Cavaliers. Cabrini has twice tallied six goals, beating Rosemont College 6-0 September 27 and topping Immaculata University 6-1 October 4.
The Cavaliers' offense registered 24 shots, including 17 on Falcons' goalkeeper Rachel Orlen. Alessi and Ryan led the attack with five shots apiece.
Cabrini raced to a 4-0 lead before halftime for the third time in the last four games. Alessi scored two unassisted goals at the 15:07 and 27:15 marks. Gordon provided the Cavaliers with a two-goal lead in the 17th minute.
Junior Lynda Kaufmann put Cabrini ahead 3-0 at the 23:21 mark with an unassisted score.
Ryan opened the scoring in the second half, supplying the Cavaliers with a comfortable 5-0 advantage at the 38:33 mark. The goal was Ryan's first of the season.
Gordon added her second and stretched the lead to 6-0 at the 45:45 mark. Ryan capped the Cabrini onslaught with her second score in the 55th minute.
Cedar Crest salvaged a shutout when Emily Seifert scored at the 63:13 mark.
Cabrini sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Donahue stopped two shots in the win. Orlen made 17 saves for the Falcons.
The Cavaliers owned a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners.
Cabrini (13-4, 7-0) continues CSAC play Wednesday, October 22 at home against Gwynedd-Mercy College. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
