RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini field hockey team kept its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) record perfect with a 4-1 win against rival Gwynedd-Mercy College Wednesday night at Edith Robb Dixon Field. The Cavaliers are winners of their last 11 games contests dating back to September 18.
Cabrini broke a 1-1 tie less than six minutes into the second half with its first of three unanswered goals. Junior Lynda Kaufmann unleashed a blast from just inside the box and past Gwynedd-Mercy goalkeeper Ashley McGinty at the 40:09 mark.
The Cavaliers secured a two-goal edge after freshman Maura Gordon slipped an unassisted score into the Griffins' cage at the 45:43 mark. The goal was Gordon's sixth in the last four games.
Cabrini's cushion grew to 4-1 after sophomore Desiree Umosella converted a pass from freshman Lauren Alessi at the 61:09 mark.
The Cabrini defense stood tall throughout the second half. With less than 10 minutes remaining, a Gwynedd-Mercy fast break, led by Dottie O'Neil, was thwarted on the doorstep when a host of Cavaliers came to the aid of goalkeeper Caitlin Donahue.
The Cavaliers opened the game's scoring in the seventh minute. Alessi corralled a pass in front of the cage from Gordon and deposited the contest's first score at the 7:04 mark of the first half.
The Griffins responded, tying the game at one goal apiece in the 17th minute. Through traffic, Victoria Geppert snuck a shot past Donahue for the game's equalizer.
Donahue tallied four saves in the victory. McGinty made five stops for the Griffins.
The Cavaliers began this 11-game win streak with a 3-2 win against Swarthmore. Cabrini last suffered a loss September 16 against Delaware Valley College. The Aggies earned a 2-1 victory in a strokes shootout.
The Cavaliers remain the lone unbeaten team in the CSAC.
Cabrini (14-4, 8-0) concludes the regular season Saturday, October 25 at Philadelphia Biblical University. Game time is set for 12:30 p.m.
