RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini field hockey team collected its fifth win in five games and remains unbeaten in Colonial States Athletic Conference play with a commanding 6-1 win against Immaculata University at Edith Robb Dixon Field Saturday.
Senior forward Melissa Benedetti led the Cavaliers' offensive charge with two goals and one assist. Cabrini registered 24 total shots, including 19 at the Immaculata cage.
Freshman Stephanie Campanaro jumped started the Cavaliers' attack, scoring her first career goal in the 14th minute off a feed from Benedetti.
Cabrini quickly pushed its lead to two goals after sophomore Desiree Umosella, the reigning Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conferene Co-Player of the Week, deposited an unassisted marker at the 19:41 mark off a rebound in front of the Mighty Macs' cage.
The Cavaliers carried a three-goal lead into the intermission following the first of Benedetti's two scores. Off a rebound in front, the senior collected her fifth tally of the season in the 32nd minute.
Cabrini's advantage grew to five goals after the rookie duo of Maura Gordon and Lauren Alessi found the back of the cage. Gordon's goal came off a hard shot from the right circle at the 42:50 mark. Alessi got her stick on a Gordon shot nearly 10 minutes following, deflecting the ball into the top corner.
Benedetti capped the Cavaliers' scoring at the 59:14 mark off a pass from junior Bridget Bergen.
Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Donahue logged more than 59 minutes of scoreless play, stopping one shot. Senior Elissa Salantri posted five saves and allowed one goal in almost 11 minutes.
Cabrini (8-4, 3-0) will look to extend its CSAC unbeaten streak to five games Wednesday, October 8 at home against Keystone College. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
