RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini field hockey team remains unbeaten in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play following a 4-2 win against Keystone College Wednesday night at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Senior Melissa Benedetti charged the Cavaliers' offense with her second straight two-goal performance.
The Cavaliers jumped on the Giants, taking command of a 4-0 lead at the 40:43 mark of the second half. Cabrini recorded 11 shots against just three from the visitors.
Benedetti initiated the scoring barrage, tallying her first of two scores at the 8:09 mark of the opening frame. Off a feed from sophomore Desiree Umosella, Benedetti deposited her seventh goal of the season.
The Cavaliers grabbed a two-goal lead after Umosella cashed in on a set-up from freshman Maura Gordon in the 30th minute. Cabrini coasted into the intermission with a three-goal cushion after freshman Lauren Alessi beat KC goalkeeper Breanna Auld off a pass from junior Lynda Kaufmann.
Benedetti, named to the CSAC Honor Roll Monday, capped the Cavaliers' scoring in the 40th minute, receiving a pass from junior Bridget Bergen and converting her eighth goal of the year.
A brief Keystone rally trimmed the Cabrini lead in half, 4-2, with less than four minutes remaining. The Giants got on the scoreboard in the 47th minute following a goal from Brackney Brotzman. Kellina Yarrish cut the Cavaliers' advantage in half at the 66:20 mark.
Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Donahue totaled one save in the victory. Auld stopped six shots in a losing effort for the Giants.
The Cavaliers staked claim to a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Cabrini (9-4, 4-0) plays it third consecutive home game Saturday, October 11 against CSAC foe Neumann College at 1 p.m.
