STEVENSON, Md. – In just his second season, Cabrini volleyball head coach Eric Schaefer guided the Cavaliers to a program-record 22 overall wins. Cabrini's 2008 season came to a close Sunday, one set shy of capturing the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region title. Penn State – Behrend earned a 3-2 win against the Cavaliers at Stevenson University's Student Union Gymnasium.
Junior setter Lizzie Williams led Cabrini's offense with a team-high 37 assists against the Lions. She also added six digs.
Freshman outside hitter Alexis Doss powered the Cavaliers' attack with 11 kills. Junior outside hitter Traci Beltz tallied 10 kills.
Senior Lindsay Martin, senior Kate Fetterman and sophomore Steph Recklau each recorded nine kills. Martin totaled 11 digs.
Senior Michelle Mola and senior Danielle Finnegan guided the Cabrini defense, each collected a club-best 21 digs. Freshman Courtney Abel matched Martin with 11 digs.
Cabrini jumped to a 1-0 advantage following a 26-24 win in set one. Tied at 22, the Cavaliers scored the four of the game's final six points en route to the victory. Back-to-back kills from Recklau and Doss clinched the win.
After the PSU – Behrend evened the contest, 1-1, with a 25-21 victory in the second set, Cabrini rebounded to take game three, 25-21. The Cavaliers notched a match-best .324 attack clip, burying 16 kills and committing just four errors.
Williams totaled 11 assists and Beltz registered a team-high six kills in the victory. Martin also added four kills and four digs.
The Lions responded again, tying the match at two sets apiece with a 25-19 win in game four. PSU – Behrend secured the win and the ECAC crown with a 15-9 victory in the fifth and final frame.
The Cavaliers finish the 2008 season with a 22-14 overall record.
