RADNOR, Pa. –
The No. 15 Cabrini men's lacrosse team opened its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) slate with a comfortable 18-3 win against Gwynedd-Mercy College Wednesday at Edith Robb Dixon Field. The win is the Cavaliers 66th straight against a conference opponent in the regular season dating back to the 2001 season.

Junior attackman Casey Grugan powered the Cabrini offense with eight points on five goals and three assists, extending the nation's second-longest consecutive points streak to 46 games. Grugan has totaled at least eight points on three occasions this season.

Senior midfielder Matt Conaway recorded four points on three scores and one helper. Freshman attack Brian Hill (3G) and senior attackman Scott Reimer (2G, 1A) each notched three points.

Junior midfielder Paul Levine (2A), sophomore midfielder Jordan Coeyman (1G, 1A) and sophomore midfielder Dan Terenick (2G) each tallied two points.

Senior face-off specialist Mike Dolente claimed 6-of-10 draw victories against the Griffins. Senior Kevin Fahey won 4-of-9 face-offs and sophomore Mike Gurenlian tallied 4-of-5 victories at the X. The Cavaliers collected more face-offs wins than their opponent for the seventh time in eight games this season.

While Cabrini scooped a season-high 57 groundballs, Fahey and sophomore midfielder Joe Strain each collected a team-high five. Hill and freshman longstick midfielder Steve Gregg each tallied four groundballs.

Ninth-year head coach Steve Colfer elected to go with a goalkeeper-by-committee approach against GMC, allowing each of his four cage-minders one period of action. Senior Kevin Chenoweth made his seventh start of the year and earned the victory. Senior Bobby Chambers and freshman James Caruso each totaled three saves.

The Cavaliers sprinted to a 12-0 cushion through the first two periods, triggered by Grugan's play on the offensive end. Grugan buried four goals and contributed two assists, lending a hand in six of Cabrini's seven second-quarter markers.

Cabrini stretched its lead from 4-0 at the end of the first quarter to 9-0 in less than a six-minute span during the second frame. Grugan's fifth and final goal of the contest supplied the Blue & White a 13-0 advantage less than four minutes into the third period.

Cabrini scored 17 unanswered goals before Gwynedd-Mercy found the back of the cage early in the final quarter. Junior attack Steve Kapp's tally with 2:59 remaining in the third period capped the Cavaliers' offensive burst.

Freshman Nicholas Coan (2A), Stefan Hetland (1G, 1A) and  Matt Houk each totaled two points. Sophomore goalkeeper Steven Hens started the contest and posted seven saves in the loss.

Wednesday's contest marked Cabrini's first all-time against Gwynedd-Mercy on the men's lacrosse field. The Griffins are in their first intercollegiate season at the varsity level in 2009.

The victory improves Colfer's career regular season record versus CSAC opponents to a perfect 66-0. The Cavaliers are now 21-4 at Edith Robb Dixon Field since the 2007 season.

Cabrini's (5-3, 1-0) quest for its ninth straight CSAC title continues Saturday, March 28 at Centenary College. Face-off with the Cyclones is set for 3 p.m.
