HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The No. 15 Cabrini men's lacrosse team remains unbeaten in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play following a 21-8 win at Centenary College Saturday afternoon. Junior attackman Casey Grugan's team-high seven points ignited a Cavaliers' offense that boasted 13 players with at least one goal.
Cabrini extends its win streak against CSAC opponents to 82 consecutive games, including postseason tournaments. The Cavaliers have won 67 straight contests in the regular season dating back to the 2001 campaign, all under ninth-year head coach Steve Colfer.
Grugan paired two goals with five assists, extending the nation's second-longest consecutive points streak to 47 games. He is just eight points shy of becoming Cabrini's third men's lacrosse player all-time to reach the 200-point plateau in a career and second this season, joining teammate Scott Reimer.
Reimer and sophomore midfielder Paul Skulski each notched five points against the Cyclones. Reimer deposited five goals, increasing his program-best mark to 187 in 62 career games played. Skulski buried two goals and dished three assists.
Sophomore midfielder Dan Terenick and freshman attackman Brian Hill each added two points on two goals. Senior midfielder B.J. Kletcheck, sophomore midfielder Jordan Coeyman and freshman midfielder Joe Arrell each tallied one score and one helper.
Senior face-off specialist Kevin Fahey won 10-of-12 draws and classmate Mike Dolente claimed six victories in eight tries. The Cavaliers, winning more face-offs than their opponent for the eighth time in nine games this season, held a 22-5 advantage versus Centenary.
For the second time in the last two outings, four Cabrini goalkeepers saw action in between the pipes. Senior Kevin Chenoweth earned the victory, totaling two saves in more than 31 minutes played. Senior Bobby Chambers posted three saves.
The Cavaliers held a commanding 11-2 advantage at the break, sparked by a 7-0 run in the second quarter. Reimer triggered the decisive run with four straight goals in a less than eight minute stretch. Grugan deposited both of his markers in the second period.
The 10-minute intermission failed to cool off the Cabrini offense. The Blue & White scored the first four goals of the second half, including two from Terenick, ballooning its lead to 15-3 with 10:13 remaining in the third quarter.
Sophomore midfielder James Barraclough and freshman defenseman Conor Martin each scored his first career goal in the fourth quarter. The Cavaliers' cushion grew to a game-high 15 goals after Coeyman's tally with 4:13 remaining.
In two conference contests thus far, Cabrini has out-scored its opponents 39-11. The Cavaliers' defense has relinquished just two goals in the first half of both games.
Sophomore Joe Swantoski led the Cyclones' efforts with four points on four goals. Junior Jason Reig posted three points with one score and two helpers.
Cabrini (6-3, 2-0) continues a season-long three-game road trip Wednesday, April 1 at CSAC opponent Immaculata University. Face-off versus the Mighty Macs is set for 6 p.m.
