The Cavaliers will be making their fifth straight appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament when they take the field Saturday at Stevenson. Cabrini advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament last season, downing local-rival Haverford College, 13-10, in the second round.
The Blue & White captured its third win in the NCAA Tournament all-time with a convincing 17-3 victory at Edith Robb Dixon Field versus Montclair State University May 6.
Junior attackman Casey Grugan powered the Cavaliers with five points on four goals and one assist against the Red Hawks. Grugan's one helper increased his 2009 total to 44, eclipsing Cabrini Athletic Hall of Fame honoree Tom Lemieux's (1999-02) single-season record of 43 assists in 2002.
Grugan also owns the program's top mark for points in a single season. He enters Saturday's contest leading all Division III players with 95 points on 51 goals and 44 assists. Grugan has recorded at least one point in 56 straight games, the nation's second-longest active streak.
Additionally, Grugan has scored at least one goal in 53 straight games dating back to March 17, 2007 versus Hampden-Sydney College. He has scored at least one goal in 55-of-56 career games at Cabrini. Grugan was held without a goal versus Widener University March 10, 2007.
The NCAA Division III all-time record for scoring at least one goal is 54 consecutive games, held by Washington College's John Cheek from March 18, 1974 – April 9, 1977. The NCAA record across all levels is 56 games, held by Syracuse University's Tom Marechek from March 18, 1989 – May 25, 1992 and Johns Hopkins' Terry Riordan from March 7, 1992 to May 27, 1995.
Senior attackman Scott Reimer complimented Grugan's efforts against Montclair State, posting four points on four goals. Reimer's nation-leading 67 scores is one goal shy of matching Cabrini's single-season program record of 68 tallies – a standard he established in 2008.
Sophomore midfielder Paul Skulski totaled five points on two goals and three assists in the win. Senior goalkeeper Kevin Chenoweth notched 11 saves. The Cavaliers owned a staggering 17-6 advantages in face-off victories.
Cabrini is 11-3 all-time against Stevenson – formerly Villa Julie College and an affiliate member of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC). In the teams' last meeting in 2006, the Cavaliers knocked off the Mustangs, 10-6, in the championship game of the CSAC Tournament.
