CHESTER, Pa. – The Cabrini field hockey team continued its non-conference schedule Saturday, dropping a 3-1 decision at Widener University. Sophomore midfielder Maura Gordon provided the lone score for the Cavaliers in the loss.
Gordon's tally was her team-leading fourth of the season. Through five games, she leads the Blue & White attack with nine points on four scores and one assist.
The contest played scoreless until the Pride found the back of the cage in the 37th minute, taking a 1-0 advantage. Megan Scarpinato converted a feed from teammate Ellen Etzweiler at the 36:29 mark.
Less than two minutes following, Gordon answered with the game's equalizer at the 38:06 mark. Sophomore forward Lauren Alessi was credited with the assist, her first of the season.
Widener regained a one-goal cushion, 2-1, in the 59th minute after Colleen Cormier beat Cabrini goalkeeper Vicky King off a feed from Brittany Dippolito.
The Pride added an insurance tally just 67 seconds following. Jackie Elliot's goal was set-up by Jessica Gonzalez at the 59:52 mark.
King, making her fourth straight start in the cage for the Cavaliers, totaled a season-high 10 saves in the setback. Widener goalkeeper Megan Purcell made six stops.
The Blue & White offense registered 13 total shots on the afternoon. Gordon led the charge, recording nine shots against the Pride.
Cabrini (1-4) will look to end its three-game slide Tuesday on the road against Delaware Valley College at 4 p.m. Lasts season's meeting with the Aggies was a dramatic one, resulting in Del Val's 2-1 victory in strokes at Edith Robb Dixon Field September 16.
