RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini field hockey team began play in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) on the right foot, topping Marywood University, 4-2, Saturday at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Sophomore midfielder Maura Gordon ignited the Cavaliers attack with six points on two goals and two assists.
Gordon had a hand in each of Cabrini's four scores against the Pacers. She scored the Cavaliers' first goal of the contest, tying the game at 1-1, in the 18th minute. Gordon punched home a rebound in front of the Marywood cage.
Freshman Lindsey Atzert deposited the eventual game-winning goal less than seven minutes following. On a fast-break, Gordon's shot attempt from just inside the circle trickle past Pacers cageminder Jamie Bowman and found Atzert on the doorstep all alone for her first career goal in the 25th minute.
The Cavaliers' lead ballooned to two goals only six minutes into the second half. Gordon emphatically finished a feed in front of the Marywood cage from junior forward Desiree Umosella at the 41:07 mark.
Cabrini pushed its advantage to 4-1 at the 61:33 mark after junior midfielder Shannon Mulhern tipped in a shot from Gordon at the top of the circle.
The win snaps a six-game losing skid for the Cavaliers and is the first on their home turf in 2009.
Freshman goalkeeper Vicky King totaled one save for her second victory of the season. Bowman made three saves for the Pacers.
