RADNOR, Pa. –
Sophomore midfielder Maura Gordon's goal in double-overtime ended more than 95 minutes of scoreless play and provided the Cabrini field hockey team with a 1-0 victory against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Cedar Crest College Tuesday at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

Gordon streaked down the left sideline in front of the Cedar Crest bench, cut back across the middle of the circle and let loose a shot from 10 yards out that beat a sprawling Falcons senior goalkeeper Rachel Orlen stick-side for the game-winning goal.

The score was Gordon's second double-overtime tally of the season. She supplied the Cavaliers with a 3-2 win against Western Connecticut State September 5 as part of the Drew University Tournament.

Gordon, ranked first in the CSAC in shots entering Tuesday's contest, recorded a game-best 14 against the Falcons. The Cabrini offense registered 40 totals shots, including 29 on the Cedar Crest cage.

The Blue & White attack threw just about everything but the kitchen sink at Orlen throughout the entire game. The senior cageminder notched 28 saves, making several brilliant stops to keep the Falcons in the contest.

And, when the Cavaliers' offense slipped shots past Orlen, it was the Falcons' backline recovering to make the stop at the goal line. The Cedar Crest defense tallied three defensive saves in the contest.

Cabrini had a number of chances in regulation and in both overtime sessions, including a few opportunities on the Cedar Crest doorstep. The Falcons countered with a couple fast-break chances, but could not convert.

Junior forward Desiree Umosella and freshman forward Lindsey Atzert posted six and five shots, respectively. The Cavaliers' offense generated 16 penalty corners against four from the visitors.

Freshman goalkeeper Vicky King totaled three saves for her first career shutout.

The Blue & White opens the CSAC regular season with two consecutive victories for the second straight season. The Cavaliers began its conference slate with a convincing 4-1 triumph versus Marywood University September 26.

Cabrini (3-7, 2-0) returns to the road Saturday, October 3 against CSAC foe Immaculata University at 11 a.m.
